I've been riding with lights for years and trying to find the right one has been a challenge. Most of my early morning / night riding has been primarily on the road bike. We recently moved and now live down the street from a 1000 acre park full of MTB trails in South Texas.
I was hoping to find one light that I could use for both road & MTB. I didn't think it was possible until I got the Raveman PR2400.
I had been road riding with Garmin Varia and MTB with Light n Motion Taz 1200. Both are great lights but the Garmin Varia has too much of a spot beam pattern. I much prefer to have a wider beam pattern so I see more of the sides of the roads while I'm riding. The Taz 1200 did that but I had to tilt the light down so I didn't blind oncoming traffic. Plus the light color of the Taz is too white. Good for MTB but too bright for road.
Raveman PR2400 nailed it. It has two distinct beam patterns. One for road riding and one for MTB. More a high and low beam and the color of the light is perfect The road low beam mimics a car headlight with a cutoff at the top so you don't blind oncoming traffic and high beam for the trails.
While the Raveman by itself would be all I need for the trails, I do ride with a helmet light as well to see better around the switch backs but I could easily ride without it and not have any problems.
In summary for me the Raveman PR2400 nailed the one light for two types of riding!! The additional handlebar FOB is a huge bonus.
